The Prostagma Custom Hotkey Builder lets you create Age of Mythology: Retold shortcuts that the normal in-game hotkey settings do not offer.
Create shortcuts for specific units and buildings, resource gatherers, unit abilities, transforms, stances, orders, and selected one-shot Scenario Editor commands. Compatible gameplay actions can be combined into one shortcut, with up to five in-game commands.
What can I create?
Examples include:
- Find or cycle through a specific unit or building.
- Select one matching unit or building without moving the camera.
- Select every matching unit or building, or only those currently on screen.
- Find Food, Wood, Gold, or Favor gatherers.
- Use a unit ability, change a stance, or issue an order.
- Transform or toggle supported units.
- Use one-shot Scenario Editor actions such as Undo, Save/Load, tool switching, brush settings, or gizmo snapping.
- Run several compatible gameplay actions in sequence.
You can target a specific unit or building, such as Cyclops or Japanese Shrine, or use broader groups when available.
Chaining actions
You can combine supported gameplay actions into one hotkey. Each later gameplay block has the same units, buildings, groups, abilities, transforms, selected-unit commands, and helpers as the first block. Scenario Editor actions stay standalone so their shipped input context remains intact.
Select all Lykaon Werewolves↓
Transform them into Villagers↓
Find / cycle Town Center
Pressing that shortcut executes the actions in sequence. A later action may use the current selection or replace it with a new selection. The five-command limit counts actual Retold engine commands, so some action blocks use more than one slot.
How to create a hotkey
- Choose a hotkey type. Start with Find & Select, Resource Gatherers, Abilities, Transforms & Toggles, Stances & Orders, Scenario Editor, or Action Chain.
- Configure the action. Choose the unit, building, group, ability, stance, transform, or other action you want.
- Choose a key combination. Pick a shortcut, or use Record Keys.
- Add another action if you want. Use “+ Add next action” until the chain reaches the five-command limit.
- Add the shortcut to Your Hotkeys. Repeat for as many shortcuts as you want.
- Review and export. Copy the configuration or download a ready-to-use
user.con.
Checking for conflicts
This step is optional, but recommended. Import LocalKeyBindings.xml to check your normal Retold hotkeys. If you already use custom hotkeys, you can also import user.con.
Prostagma warns you about overlapping bindings. Custom user.con hotkeys take precedence over conflicting shortcuts configured through Retold’s normal settings. You can also intentionally reuse the same key for several generated hotkeys; Prostagma will warn instead of blocking you because Retold's behavior for duplicate same-context mappings is not guaranteed.
Your files stay private
Imported configuration files are read locally in your browser. They are not uploaded to Prostagma.
Copy or download
Copy
Copies the generated hotkey configuration to your clipboard. Use this if you already have a user.con and prefer to paste the generated block yourself.
Download
Downloads a ready-to-use file named user.con. You do not need to create or rename it. If you imported an existing file, Prostagma preserves unrelated content and updates the managed hotkey section.
Installing user.con
Place user.con in your Age of Mythology: Retold user configuration folder. A typical Windows path looks like:
C:\Users\<YourName>\Games\Age of Mythology Retold\<SteamID>\config\user.con
Fully restart Age of Mythology: Retold after saving or replacing the file. Retold loads user.con when the game starts.
Important things to know
- Imported files stay on your device.
- Each generated
map() entry is written correctly for Retold.
- Some actions operate on your current selection; others first find or select a unit type.
- Unit abilities still follow Retold’s normal cooldown, targeting, and caster rules.
- Held/stateful and pointer-driven Editor commands are not included in this beta; their remapping behavior is still being investigated.
- Custom
user.con bindings can override normal in-game hotkeys.
- You can review the exact generated text before copying or downloading it.
A few examples
- Find & Select
- Find Japanese Shrine, select all Cyclops, or select Cyclops on screen.
- Resources
- Find Wood gatherers or Gold gatherers.
- Abilities
- Select a supported unit type and activate its normal ability.
- Transforms
- Select all Lykaon Werewolves and transform them into Villagers.
- Compound
- Select all Cyclops, then center the camera on them.
Not sure where to start?
Try something simple first: Find & Select → Japanese Shrine, Resource Gatherers → Wood, or Stances & Orders → Stand Ground.
Once the basic workflow feels familiar, start combining actions.
